![]() Hosted above the old bus station in MIlton Keynes, MK Geek Night (twitter.com/MKGeekNight) describes itself as ' A chance for people to meet up over a few beers, and chat about the web, design, UX, development, creativity, photography and more'. The 'more' part of that description is the conference grade speakers who so far have spoken on many subject that effect the 'geek' community but my favourite today has to have been 'the high cost of free' by Aral Balkan. Which was about how are free web services funded, and how large corporations brand a service as free but the truth is the perceived user is actually the product being sold as marketing information. This session meant a lot to me because I closed down my Facebook but opened a twitter account, because i thought if i going to share something online why not share it with the whole world instead of just a selection of friends (and a small number of multinational companies looking over my shoulder), I now am more aware of what i put in the internet, because i am not under the false impression that its kept to a closed group. Anyhow this seems to have expanded into a random rant about the dangers of the internet, which is odd given the medium that your reading this on. To find out more about MKGN and see how hard it is to get tickets, this time they must have gone within the first hour - goto http://mkgeeknight.co.uk/ To see my pictures from the MK Geek Nights
